Poppies in Apricot

$240.00

Mixed media on paper, 39 x 39cm. Signed on the back.

This piece is inspired by the ruffly paper-thin petals of poppies in the sunlight, painted in a fantasy apricot palette.

It’s one of my first florals, and has a lot of elements to it. I started with an underpainting in soft pastels, which gives it a glow. A glaze of acrylic paint gives the uniform cool palette, and and mica powder finishes it with a pop of colour. Zoom in for the interesting textures!

Framing Advice

This is not a standard size, but will fit in a frame with a mat cut to show a picture of 15 x 15” (38 x 38cm) or slightly smaller. I can arrange professional framing similar to that shown here, for around the same as you would pay plus the extra packaging and shipping costs. For more details, see my framing advice.

About this Collection

Flowers are so inviting to the eye — all sinuous lines and rich textures, papery-thin or velvety thick, spiny or ruffly. It’s very conventional subject matter, but I want you to see what I see, so I paint them a little differently. These floral still lifes are composed with a macro lens view, painted with creamy soft oils, and colour saturated to give a dreamy fantasy landscape feel.
